Wow! Sometimes it is very hard to stay positive. Today was one of those days for me.
When I woke up I was in a good mood. I had my meditation time; I did my morning stretches, and the sun was shining... I felt that this was going to be a good day.
Shortly after I had a conversation with my daughter where she became very frustrated with me about some life circumstances. And that was a small piece that started chipping away at my positivity for the day.
When I got to work, my day started with inter-department drama between coworkers. And when you have to help coworkers get along, it can be frustrating when you have many personalities.
Each person that I started speaking to today had either negative things to say or was in a position to where they felt defeated or unhappy about a situation outcome. When all of these things hit you, it can be very difficult to stay positive.
What do you do when you’re in this type of situation?
For me, I have to take a minute to breathe. I try to step away from the problem or conversation and try to focus on something that brings me peace or lightens my spirit.
By doing this it helps me ground myself and realize what I can and can’t control. If there are things I cannot control, I do my best to help provide peace and then I have to let it go. For things I can control, I try to bring out the positive so that the atmosphere can change.
Just by reading that paragraph, it sounds so simple, but some days, oh my goodness, it is anything but simple.
I try to focus on activities that bring me peace and bring me back to a positive place. I listen to inspirational music; I write my frustrations to get them out of my head, or I will talk to a friend whom I know will help calm the moment and put it into perspective.
I have seen a quote (not sure of the author) that is written on my dry erase board at work and it says “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.”
When your day starts to get out of control with the negative situations, how do you react to them? Do you feed into them or do you try to separate from them so it does not define your day?
For each of us, we are the only ones who can control ourselves and emotions. Decide who you want to be with every situation. Don’t let someone else’s negativity control your day.
Find your activities that bring you peace and positive light. Lean into them when you find negativity creeping in, take a deep breath and decide how you will react.
Sending you peace, love and joy my friend… and lots of positive light!
